The Olentangy Liberty girls track and field team opened their season in impressive fashion Wednesday night, defeating Delaware Hayes 93–44 at Patriot Stadium. Competing on their home track, Liberty showcased strong depth and standout performances across multiple events to secure the decisive victory.

Liberty’s distance squad set the tone early and continued to dominate throughout the meet. In the 800 meters, Liberty swept the top two spots as Leah Berger crossed the line first in 2:30.75, followed closely by Adelyn Miller in 2:32.61. The momentum carried into the 1600 meters, where Dasha Gogoleva led a remarkable Liberty sweep of the top fourteen places, finishing first in 5:50.23. Gogoleva also contributed a third-place finish in the 800 meters, highlighting her versatility and endurance.

The dominance continued in the 3200 meters, where Liberty once again controlled the race, claiming the top four finishes. McKinley Newcomer led the way with a winning time of 11:39.94, followed by Becca Henry and Anna Shah, with Quinn Cachat finishing fourth to complete the sweep.

In the hurdles, Isabella Davis delivered a strong performance in the 100-meter hurdles, taking first place in 17.38. Teammate Sydney Yee added a third-place finish, while Maria Weakley and Amira Elmouloudi contributed additional top-five efforts. Elmouloudi returned later in the meet to win the 300-meter hurdles in 59.57, securing another first-place finish for Liberty.

Liberty’s relay teams also made a strong statement. The 4x100 relay team of Abigail Danner, Aiza Rahmani, Malaika Bundu, and Sophia Tsakalis captured first place in 55.09. In the 4x200 relay, Liberty’s A team of Giana Bertone, Carsyn Cowell, Eva Cherian, and Adalyn Youness continued the winning trend with a first-place finish in 1:55.50. The 4x800 relay team of Ellie Mitrey, Penelope Schmitt, Katelyn Koflowitch, and Quinn Cachat added another victory, finishing in 10:59.61.

In field events, Liberty excelled across the board. Brinley Contini led a dominant showing in the long jump, taking first place with a leap of 15' 7.5", while Liliana Zieg and Elizabeth VanVoorhis completed a Liberty sweep of the top three. Zieg also claimed first place in the high jump, clearing 5' 2", leading another strong Liberty showing in the event.

Pole vault standout Caroline Kman delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning with a clearance of 11' 9". In the throwing events, Addison Mosholder placed third in shot put and followed that with a second-place finish in discus, leading Liberty’s efforts in both events.

On the track, Liberty also showed strength in the sprint events, led by Elle O’Brien, who placed second in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. Teammates Carsyn Cowell and Maria Weakley added top-three finishes in the 200 meters, contributing valuable points to the team total.

Overall, Liberty’s combination of top-end talent and depth proved to be the difference, as the team consistently placed multiple athletes among the top finishers in nearly every event.

“I thought we did very well for our first meet of the season,” said Head Coach Dingus. “The athletes did a great job in practice preparing for the meet and their hard work was on display.”

With a strong opening performance at home, Liberty looks to build on this momentum as the season progresses.
